The original Balsa Bugs RCers club was chartered on March 13, 1986, but disbanded on March 31, 1987. In contrast, the Sun Lakes Model Airplane Club received its charter on July 1, 1987, and remains active to this day.
Our small club was established approximately 10 years ago in Sun Lakes, Arizona. Although we’ve since relocated to the Felix Ranch, Our small club was established approximately 10 years ago in Sun Lakes, Arizona. Although we’ve since relocated to the Felix Ranch, off Hunt Hwy on the way to Florence, we continue to identify as the Sun Lakes Radio Control Club, even though there are no lakes nearby.
Over the years, our membership has ranged from 40 to 80 individuals. We’re most active during the fall, winter, and spring seasons, with many of our members being American and Canadian snowbirds.
As a volunteer-driven club, everything we have here—from our facilities to maintenance—is thanks to the efforts of our past and present members. The Felix Family, who owns the ranch, has also been instrumental in our success. Without their support, we wouldn’t be where we are today!
The guy in the picture is John. He is a past and current president and has been with us the longest. He spearheaded most of the building projects. His enthusiasm is contagious and inspirational.
