At Sun Lakes Model Airplane Club our passions are building, flying, driving (and crashing / repairing) remote control airplanes, gliders, jets, helicopters, drones and surface vehicles including electric, glow, and gas. Check out our new drone pages!
There is an engine size limitation at the field. No NITRO or GAS engines larger than 1.8 cubic inch/30 cc are allowed. This limitation is waived during AMA sanctioned events, such as IMAC or NSRCA, both precision flying contests. Also, no TURBINE engines are allowed due to the type material used for the runway as the fabric material would be burned by the extreme heat of the exhaust.
We are into every aspect of the RC hobby including building models from scratch, new member instruction, FPV (First Person View), pylon racing, precision aerobatics, car racing, warbirds, scale flying, and drone racing.
Although someone is here almost every day, our most popular times are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. If the front gate is open, come on in and say hello. If you want to learn to fly, we’ll help you get started.
Many things are happening at the club – See our calendar of coming events…don’t miss out on the excitement!!!
For an updated list of things that are happening at the field, check out our Calendar of Upcoming Events.
We are – very proudly – AMA Club #1601. AMA or MAAC membership is compulsory for club members because it provides our insurance and Safety Guidelines.
