Our Passion

At Sun Lakes Model Airplane Club, we embrace every aspect of the RC (Remote Control) hobby. From building, flying, driving, crashing, and repairing remote control airplanes, gliders, EDF jets, helicopters, drones, and surface vehicles, our enthusiasm knows no bounds. Our members indulge in a variety of activities, including:

  • Building models from scratch

  • New member instruction

  • FPV (First Person View)

  • Pylon racing

  • Precision aerobatics

  • Car racing

  • Warbirds

  • Scale flying

  • Drone racing

Our Location

Nestled about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson in northwest Florence, Arizona, our club enjoys a perfect winter climate for RC activities. We would love to have you visit us or join our club. Although someone is usually present almost every day, our most popular times are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. If the front gate is open, come on in and say hello! If you want to learn to fly, we’ll help you get started.

Proudly AMA Club #1601

We are – very proudly – AMA Club #1601. AMA membership is compulsory for all club members as it provides essential insurance coverage and comprehensive Safety Guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

FRIA Approved Location

The Sun Lakes Radio Control Club has been approved as a FRIA (FAA-Recognized Identification Area) location. This approval means that pilots flying within the boundaries of the SLRCC Field and not exceeding the 400-foot ceiling are not required to have FAA Remote ID modules in their RC aircraft or transmit digital location data while flying. Enjoy the freedom of flying without any Remote ID equipment at our designated field.
